The Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu Learning Resource Center (LRC) is an integral part of the School and contributes to the realization of its objectives by providing and making available materials and services needed for the students’ formation and education.

LRC provides services mainly to SHS – AdC students, faculty, administration and the school staff.

Vision/Mission Statement

The LRC aims to promote a wholistic formation of the students as well as the faculty and the whole community through developing enthusiasm and passion for reading by providing a rich and relevant collection of reading and audio visual materials to meet the recreational, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and academic needs of the community.

Sources

The Library’s collection includes books, magazines, newspapers, journals, instructional materials, and electronic formats. Most of the collections are for circulation and are accessible in the open shelves while others are for library use only. The Library uses the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDCS) in organizing its collection for easy retrieval and utilization of information.

Borrowing Policies

Present SHS-Ateneo de Cebu ID and all library materials to be borrowed at the circulation counter.

1. Only students from Grade III to High School are allowed to borrow three (3) boks at a time, provided they have no unreturned books in their records.

  • Reference and Filipiniana books may be borrowed for three (3) days an may be renewed for another three (3) days unless needed by another user.
  • Fiction books may be borrowed for two (2) weeks and may be renewed for another two (2) weeks unless needed by another user.

2. Materials that are for LIBRARY USE only are the following:

  • General reference (encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, yearbooks, almanacs, and other materials that belong to the General Reference Section.)
  • Magazines, newspapers, newspaper clippings and brochures
  • Reserved books (books, reserved by teachers for use by students for a specified period of time; rare materials and other contentious books.)
  • Textbooks
  • Books in the Faculty section

3. Fines and other penalties

  • Fines for overdue books: Reference/Filipiniana = P1.50/day including Sundays and Holidays; Fiction = P0.50/day including Sundays and Holidays
  • Lost books: when a book is lost, the borrower should report the loss to the Librarian or Circulation-in-Charge to avoid unnecessary fines. However, if the borrower fails to report its loss, he/she will have to pay the overdue fines incurred up to the day he/she reports the loss. On top of it, he will have to pay the cost of the book or he/she may replace it (refer to replacement policy.)

Replacement Policy

  1. Lost books should be replaced with the same title, author, and copyright date.
  2. If the same title is not available, it should be replaced with the newer edition of the same title and author.

Public Access and Cataloguing System

The library and AV uses the Follett software which provides an integrated solution to public access and cataloguing needs.

Components:
A. Catalog Plus

  • Search by title, author, subject, call number, series, keyword, category and more; check availability of resources right from the OPAC.
  • Place items on hold or reserve items for a future date
  • View and print checkouts, fines, holds and reserves

B. Circulation Plus

  • Automate manual tasks such as check in/out, fine calculations, overdue notices, holds renewals, inventory and more;
  • Enhance security by displaying student’s picture on the check out screen;
  • Easily add and update patron information right from the circulation desk;
  • Perform full or partial inventory while the library is transacting business;
  • Select, sort and generate a wide variety of reports, including collection value, shelf list statistics and category statistics.

Audio-Visual

AV Hours
Monday to Friday :: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Saturday :: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM

The audio-visual collection is considered an important component of the total information system of the library and is housed separately from the other library resources. The Audio-Visual Center has a collection of audio and visual material and equipment that are primarily intended to serve the needs of its clientele.

Administrators, faculty and staff are encouraged to help build the audio-visual collection.

Services
The Audio-Visual Center should make available the following services to its users:

  • Training and assistance in the effective utilization of instructional media; assist faculty and students in their instructional needs such as making power point presentations, audio-video recording and graphic designing/lay out and editing.
  • Assistance in the operation of different equipment such as multi media and sound system as requested by the teachers and other members of the school community.
  • Lending of AV materials
  • Information dissemination of new acquisitions
  • Training on the proper operation and care of AV materials
  • Dub/burn materials/audio recording for classroom purposes as requested by the faculty or the department concerned
  • Acceptance of reservations for meetings, conferences, and other functions
  • Supervise the periodic cleaning, repair and maintenance of the various AV equipment
  • Maintain and operate LED boards
  • Photo archiving
